We are so pleased to celebrate those who have completed their degrees this summer, congratulations to all. It is wonderful to be in contact with so many through the Old Colytonian Society.

Old Colytonians who have achieved degrees this summer include :

Jemma Bradley, 2.1 Psychology , Cardiff University

Sigourney Porter, 1st Class, BMus, Popular Music, Royal Northern College of Music

Georgia Brice, 1st Class Honours, Biomedical Science, Manchester Metropolitan University

Phoebe Thomas, Politics & International Relations, BSc, 1st Class Honours, Cardiff University

Vladimir Viner, Economics, Goldsmiths, University of London,

Lauren Nield, MSc, Psychology of Education, UCL

James Moffatt, 2.1 History, Cardiff University

James (pictured) shares his experience with us: “'University for those who have experienced it in the last few years has been drastically different from the experiences of any other year within living history. For the majority of my degree, I have not had in-person teaching, and the entire world has changed immensely since I first went to university, only three years ago. I studied History at Cardiff University, which eventually developed into a passion for Central European and especially Czechoslovak history. Through my studies, I was one of the lucky few who managed to escape England during the COVID pandemic last summer and study the Czech language at Palacký University in the Czech Republic. The experience of going abroad to study was heightened by the ongoing international events and the tranquillity I felt within that chaotic year. I ‘graduated’ (of course I won’t officially graduate until the ceremony next year once the COVID situation has eased) this year with a high 2:1, with which I couldn’t be happier considering everything that’s occurred, coupled with the heavy work I took on with learning another language and becoming president of one of the university’s most successful and high-achieving sports clubs. Throughout my time at university, I have ensured that I did and achieved everything which I thought was possible, and made sure I didn’t solely focus on academic pursuits. This approach has ensured that, during an otherwise deeply impacted university career, I have managed to extract much more of the university experience than could have been hoped when everything ground to a halt in March last year. Onwards, I’ll be moving abroad to the Czech Republic this September, where I will be (hopefully) mastering Czech at Masaryk Uni. From this, I plan on returning to begin my postgraduate studies. It’s certainly been an interesting journey since leaving Colyton!”
