News - Nov 11

Monday 1st November saw the start of the school’s annual Foodbank Appeal. Mr Gregson, Deputy Headteacher, who is overseeing the project, explained to students through the morning’s assembly that, compared to this time five years ago, the need for foodbanks in our area has increased by 128% and that the number of emergency food parcels given out by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network totalled over two and a half million during the last academic year (2020-21) alone.

Students have been asked if they can donate the most needed items which, this year, include: tinned meat, fish, fruit and rice puddings, instant noodles and rice, sponge puddings, pasta sauces, tinned spaghetti, biscuits, tea bags, custard, long life milk, cereals, jam, pet food, toiletries, Christmas treats and long life bags. With a school target of 3,500 items to be received by 10thDecember, the donations began flooding in.

We are delighted to have filled three large boxes already, with new items being received every day. We look forward to reporting on the target progress later in the term.
