The start of the school year sees the launch of two new reading lists for Colyton Grammar School students.
50 Unforgettable Reads is aimed at Years 9 to 13. During the Summer Term staff and students were asked to recommend the most inspiring and enjoyable books they had read. All fifty titles, which span a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres, are drawn from these recommendations. Each term a book from the list will be chosen as ‘Book of the Term’.
The Blockbuster Reading Challenge is aimed at Years 7 and 8. Drawing inspiration from the famous quiz show, it is made up of four separate lists: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. To complete each challenge and earn a certificate, students need to ‘cross the board’ by reading five books from the list. Prizes are on offer for students who complete all four challenges, or read all twenty-five book on one of the lists.
The new lists are a central part of the School’s drive to encourage reading for pleasure, which research shows to have huge benefits for both the academic development, and emotional wellbeing of young people.
