University of Exeter Writing Competition - The importance of languages
The University of Exeter’s online language magazine, The Language Exepress, is running a fantastic writing competition in English on the importance of studying languages and cultures and is really eager to get school students involved.
We would like students to send in articles of maximum 500 words in English and our panel of university lecturers will read and decide the winner. Winners will be chosen based on analysis and creativity in their writing! The competition will be open to all GCSE and AS/A-level students, studying any language.
The topics are:
GCSE: Choose a celebration in a culture you are familiar with and explain its values.
A-Level: Do languages unite more than they divide us?
There will be a £30 Amazon voucher for the winners of each category, along with two £20 vouchers for the runners up of each category. Each prize winner will be awarded an official certificate and will have their article featured on our website: www.thelanguageexepress.co.uk
The deadline for submissions will be 30th November 2019 with winners being announced in January. Please send all articles to R.Chatburn@exeter.ac.uk.
We hope that this will be a great opportunity for students to practise their essay writing skills and explore topics which other linguists around the world are also thinking about.
