Last week, Noah W, Kelly L and Jack F attended the English Speaking Union (ESU) Mace Semi-final, the oldest and largest school debating competition in the UK. Overall, 360 schools competed, and our team went on to represent the South West in the final twelve from across the country.

They acted as proposition for the motion ‘This House regrets voluntourism culture’ and competed in a fierce debate. While the team did not progress, the students worked hard and put in an exemplary performance, receiving high praise for their delivery and analysis of their argument from the judges. They were rightly proud of their achievements and enjoyed watching the grand final.

Mr Hawkes, the debate club lead, is incredibly proud of the students, not only for reaching this stage of the competition, but also for the dedication, teamwork and humility that they have demonstrated throughout.
