"In 2022, I had the honour of playing the Last Post in Colyton's Remembrance Service. After a moving minute of silence, my regimental trumpet sound cut through piercingly, almost like a knife through butter. For the whole duration I was extremely nervous, my knees were knocking together, and I had a very dry throat, but thankfully I managed not to hit a wrong note despite some awkward top Gs in the piece, and I was praised by the Bishop who was running the service, which was very kind and thoughtful.

It is an occasion that always weighs heavily on me, with my great uncle and great grandfather both losing their lives in Ypres in the First World War, and I have relatives who died on the side of the Central Powers and also the Axis Powers in the Second World War, including in the Battle of Stalingrad. Three years later, I'm still playing the trumpet, and this moment of service is something I will never forget." - Tristan W, Y13
