What's Your Colyton Story?
“I graduated from the University of Exeter this summer with First-Class Honours in Neuroscience, receiving the Neuroscience Year Prize for achieving the highest overall mark in my year, as well as a Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence.
A particular highlight was my final-year dissertation, investigating patterns of medical conditions in individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The research is now being developed further by the research team with the aim of publication.
Looking back, so much of what helped me achieve this began at Colyton. The high standards of those around me encouraged me to set ambitious goals for myself, but more importantly, Colyton taught me how to learn: how to identify what matters, critically evaluate information and apply knowledge effectively.
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to throw myself into academics, sport and music at school. Learning to balance different interests gave me a great foundation for university, where alongside my degree I played first-team netball and became involved in tennis and snow sports.
Most importantly, I chose subjects I was genuinely curious about. I loved Neuroscience, which made working hard at it much easier. My advice to anyone making their next choices would be to follow that curiosity — and, when you arrive at university, trust the skills and work ethic you have built at Colyton, but remember to relax, get involved and enjoy it too.”
