Colyton’s U13 girls put in a strong, consistent performance at the county softball finals in Whimple, finishing the day as Devon Champions. After winning the East Devon and Exeter rounds in May, the team arrived well‑organised and played with good discipline throughout.
They began against South Dartmoor and, after being sent in to bat, posted 89 thanks to steady scoring and sharp running. The bowlers then kept things tight, taking important wickets and closing out a 20‑run win. The second match against Teignmouth was even more controlled. Colyton scored freely to reach 103, averaging around three runs per ball, before restricting Teignmouth to 61 with another tidy fielding display.
The final against St Peter’s was the closest contest of the day. Colyton chose to bowl first and limited St Peter’s to 71, setting up a chase that became tense in the closing stages. With 5 needed from 5 balls, the batters stayed composed and reached the target with one ball remaining, securing the title.
It was a solid team effort across all three matches. Lydia was named Bowler of the Tournament, and Minnie received Batter of the Tournament. The team will now represent Devon in the Regional Finals in July.
Congratulations Girls!
