News - Feb 28
Recently, a number of our students took part in the regional finals of the International STEM competition, F1 in Schools.
This year, the South West Regional finals should perhaps have been called the London and Southern England finals with teams from London, the home counties and the Cotswolds also taking part alongside teams from the South West. There are three age/ability related categories in the competition that the teams may enter: Entry, Development and Professional class. The competition was very strong this year, with 19 teams in the Development Class alone.
Colyton entered its first all-girl team into the Development Class this year, Singularity, with their highly distinctive outfits and pink fluffy cowboy hats, performed extremely well and were nominated for awards in the Best Team Identity and Sponsorship & Marketing categories across all classes. Our congratulations to Abigail H, Alma D, Grace T, Maria G, Roma H and Youkie H for all their hard work and great team result.
We had another first this year with two Year 8 teams entered into the Entry class category of the competition and to our delight, they took first and second place at this Regional Final.
Peregrine Racing with its distinctive black and green team outfits were very competitive and were nominated in the Best Portfolio category and won the award for Best Research & Development, along with being placed first in these finals. Congratulations to Freddy S, Finlay M, Hattie S, Lily A-D, Sam B and Stan W.
Our third team Gear 6 were nominated for Best Pit Display across all classes and won the award for Fastest Car in their class, which also happened to be the fastest car of the day across all of the classes of cars that passed the scrutineering checks. Gear 6 were placed second in these finals. Huge congratulations to Sammy W, George D, Joe B, Mark L, Seth J and Sutherland H.
We congratulate all team members for their competition achievements, team experiences and individual learning and wish them every success in the future
