Rehearsals are well underway for our upcoming school production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music’ (book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse). This classic Austrian-set musical, which tells the tale of young nun Maria who leaves her convent to become the governess to a large family of seven children in the time leading up to the Second World War as the children’s father opposes the Nazis, is much loved and we are sure that it will prove popular with audiences here.

Students from across the year groups have been showing great dedication as they commit to rehearsals during Period 3 3/4 sessions and after school, multiple times a week in the build-up to the performances after the Easter holidays. They have been working on the famous songs with Mr T Brimelow, our Head of Music and rehearsing with the help of Mrs T Rees and Mrs S Brownley.

All the roles, from Maria and the Von Trapps, to the chorus of nuns and a sizable ensemble, will be played by the students. Behind the scenes is also a flurry of activity for students taking part as they paint and prepare sets, create costumes, gather props and plan for sound and lighting design. This truly is a production created by the students, and we cannot wait to see them all in action in what is guaranteed to be a magnificent show.

‘The Sound of Music’ takes place at Colyton Grammar School, in the Cottrill Hall, Tuesday 29th April to Friday 2nd May at 7pm. Tickets will be available to purchase soon. Please look out on our social media platforms for further updates from rehearsals and further ticket information.
