News - Jun 4

We are delighted to announce that Amelia P, Year 12, has won the Anthea Bell Translation Competition (The University of Oxford) for the Southwest for their hardest level of translation.

Students independently translated an extract from a French/Algerian novel into English and Amelia’s translation was beautifully crafted and really retained the mood of the original text. This is a fantastic achievement since over 22,000 students participated in the competition. Congratulations Amelia.

In addition to Amelia’s success, we must say a huge well done to John P, Charlie A and Chris W who also entered the competition. Also, five Year 7 students provided an entry in Spanish, and five entered in French. Five Year 8 students also entered in French.

Modern languages are thriving at Colyton Grammar School and well done to everyone who took part. Thank you also to Miss Hall for supporting the students with their scholarship.
