It has been another incredible couple of weeks for Outdoor Education at Colyton Grammar School with Year 11 students completing their DofE Silver Qualifier on Dartmoor and Year 12 students completing their DofE Gold Qualifier in North Wales.

Silver participants traversed the moor from East to West, starting at Haytor on the Monday morning and completing their route on Wednesday at Burrator reservoir. Conditions were dry and not too hot, perfect for the expedition. All of the participants did brilliantly and, despite some finding the distance and terrain particularly challenging, they all completed it.

With our Year 12 students, a nine hour drive in very hot conditions took them to the breathtaking landscape of Eryri (Snowdonia National Park). The teams had been planning their routes for some time and each had their own aspirations for the expedition, so they set off in different directions on day one and were not reunited with the other teams until their final camp on the evening of day 3. They took on, and conquered, Yr Wyddfa (Snowden), Moel Siabod, and Cnicht, as well as exploring extensively through the Glyders, the Moelwyns and through many of the stunning forests and valleys in the area. It was, at times, very hot and occasionally very rainy too, but the teams did brilliantly to accomplish their goals.

Our thanks, as always, goes out to the fantastic team of staff and outside volunteers who help make experiences like this possible. They have given up so many of their evenings and weekends to support our students and we are eternally grateful to them. A particular thanks goes to Miss MacGregor who, alongside her day to day teaching role, has been a brilliant support this year in her role as Deputy Head of Outdoor Education.
