Colyton’s U16 girls delivered a sensational day of netball at Loughborough University in the Sisters n Sport National Netball Tournament, producing grit, skill and teamwork to secure a remarkable second-place finish.
Semi-Final: Colyton vs Oswestry School
The semi-final began with clear signs of nerves from both sides. The opening quarter was scrappy, with possession changing hands frequently as each team battled to settle into the game. Despite the tense, cagey start, Colyton edged ahead, finishing the first quarter with a narrow 2–1 lead.
Once the nerves eased, the girls found their rhythm. The second quarter showcased some of their best netball of the season: sharp feeds, confident shooting, and tight defensive pressure. Colyton scored nine goals in the quarter while restricting Oswestry effectively, taking a strong 11–5 advantage into half-time.
In the second half, Colyton’s discipline and determination shone through. They continued to convert their chances clinically, while their defensive unit shut down Oswestry’s opportunities. A composed and controlled performance saw them finish the match with a 15–8 victory, securing their place in the national final.
Final: Colyton vs The Cotswold School
The final proved another high-intensity contest, and once again nerves played a part early on. Cotswold started strongly and Colyton found themselves under pressure, trailing 7–1 at the end of the first quarter.
The girls responded with resilience, working hard in the second quarter to pull the scoreline closer, though Cotswold maintained their momentum. However, the third quarter was all Colyton. Their defensive unit turned over ball after ball, and the attack converted with confidence to close the gap to just seven goals heading into the final period.
Colyton fought with everything they had in the last quarter—chasing every loose ball, pushing the pace and refusing to give in. Despite their huge final effort, they narrowly fell short, with the game finishing 21–14 in favour of The Cotswold School.
This result meant Colyton finished as runners-up in the Sisters n Sport National Netball Tournament, an outstanding achievement on the national stage.
Every member of the squad—Peggy, Ava, Amy, Ellie, Katie, Niamh, Beattie, Mabel, Lilia, Izzy, and Sukhi—played a vital role in an incredible run to the national final four. Their teamwork, determination, and the way they represented the school were exemplary.
We are extremely proud of the girls for their exceptional performances and their fantastic year of netball. Congratulations on an unforgettable season!
