The Engagement Platform (TEP)

Some time ago we highlighted that we would be conducting regular surveys with students, school colleagues and beginning later in the year, parents. The recent Government White Paper on school education, ‘Every Child Achieving and Thriving’ has been inspired by the national survey results of The Engagement platform. This is the organisation that has carried out our research. We are proud to share that CGS has been recognised as a top-performing school nationally, receiving a Top 10% badge for students’ recommendation in the Spring 2026 census with The Engagement Platform (TEP).This reflects the daily commitment of our pupils, employees and leadership team to building a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment. Engagement is at the heart of our school improvement work. We are proud of what our community has achieved and committed to building on it.

Scholarship – CGS Economics Department

We are pleased to announce that six of our Colyton Grammar School Economics students have qualified for the National Final of the Economics Olympiad UK, following school-based and regional rounds.

Only 50 students nationally progress to the final, out of a field of 4000 contestants. This means that 12 percent of the final cohort is made up of CGS students! The National Final will be held at SOAS, University of London, on 22 June 2026, where our students will face a written examination, judged by an academic panel, from which 10 finalists will be selected to make a presentation on a current economic problem. The top five students from the final will then have the opportunity to represent the UK at the International Final in Ancient Olympia, Greece this summer.

Good luck and well done to all our finalists: Cameron K, Dominic A-P, Jon C, Kate K, Olly M (Y13) as well as Charlie W (Y12)!

Gymnastics Achievement

Congratulations to Enzo M (Year 11) on an outstanding Easter break of competition in acrobatic gymnastics. From 9–12 April, Enzo and his partner represented their club at the highly competitive Flanders International Acro Cup in Belgium, where teams from 18 countries took part. They delivered a superb performance, placing 1st with their first routine, 3rd after their second routine, and finishing 3rd overall in the finals in their category.

The following weekend, on 18–19 April, they continued their success at the English Championships, where they achieved an excellent 2nd place. This was a remarkable achievement against such strong national and international competition, and we are incredibly proud of Enzo’s dedication, resilience and success. Well done, Enzo!

Scholarship – CGS Computer Science

The Bebras Challenge introduces computational thinking to students worldwide. This exciting challenge takes place in schools, under the supervision of teachers, over a two-week period every November. Last year, over 3 million students from more than 80 countries participated.

All of the students listed below achieved 100% in the Bebras Coding Challenge. An amazing achievement! The achievements of Y8, 9 and 13 are particularly notable as the challenge is fiendishly difficult and the Y9s took the same challenge as Y10 and 11.

In addition to the students listed below, 183 students achieved a score in the top 10% nationally. Well done to you all – amazing!
