Cricket:

Colyton Grammar School U13s produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure an emphatic 72-run victory over Axe Valley in an entertaining fixture.

Batting first, Colyton set an imposing tone from the outset with a confident and disciplined display at the crease. Both Hugo W and Krithik P led the charge superbly, each retiring on 25 after reaching the agreed limit—an achievement reflecting not only their skill but also their composure under pressure. Their partnerships laid a solid foundation, allowing the rest of the batting lineup to build steadily and maintain momentum throughout the innings. Smart running between the wickets and well-placed shots ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over, putting Axe Valley on the back foot early.

In response, Axe Valley struggled to keep up with the required run rate against a sharp and well-organised Colyton bowling attack. The bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, making scoring difficult and forcing errors from the opposition batters. Crucially, the fielding unit backed this up brilliantly, with energetic chases, accurate throws, and safe hands in the field helping to apply constant pressure.

Wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing Axe Valley from forming any significant partnerships. Despite some determined efforts from their middle order, the target proved beyond reach, with Colyton steadily tightening their grip on the match as the innings progressed.

By the end of the game, Colyton had secured a convincing 72-run win, showcasing a strong team performance built on disciplined batting, effective bowling, and excellent fielding. A special mention goes to Hugo W and Krithik P for their impactful contributions at the top of the order, setting the tone for a memorable victory.

Overall, it was a thoroughly deserved result for Colyton Grammar School U13s, who demonstrated both talent and teamwork throughout the match.

Meanwhile, Colyton Grammar School U15 boys secured a well-earned victory over The King’s School in a challenging, rain-affected cup match last week, booking their place in the semi-finals with a composed and disciplined performance.

Winning the toss and batting first in damp, overcast conditions, Colyton showed great resilience to post a competitive total from their allotted 20 overs. The pitch and outfield made scoring far from straightforward, but the batting unit adapted well, focusing on building partnerships and rotating the strike. Sensible shot selection and patience at the crease allowed Colyton to navigate difficult conditions and ensure they used up all of their overs effectively.

When The King’s School began their reply, it quickly became clear that conditions were becoming increasingly difficult. Colyton’s bowlers made excellent use of the wet conditions, delivering tight lines and maintaining pressure from the outset. Run-scoring proved difficult for King’s, with the ball doing enough to trouble the batters and prevent any sustained momentum.

After 10 overs of King’s innings, the rain intensified, bringing play to an early halt. With conditions no longer suitable to continue, the match was decided based on the state of play at that point, with Colyton comfortably ahead thanks to their strong first-innings total and controlled bowling performance.

As a result, Colyton were awarded the victory, progressing through to the semi-final of the cup—a fantastic achievement for the team.

This was a match that required adaptability and focus, and Colyton delivered on both fronts. Well done to all players for their efforts in difficult circumstances, and best of luck as the team moves forward in the competition!
