You may recall that three Year 9 teams entered the Engineering Development Trust (EDT) Industrial Cadets Bronze (ICB) competition, researching, designing and presenting solutions to their choice of a range of engineering challenges.

On Wednesday 29th the group travelled to the University of Bath to attend the annual Celebration Day, at which they presented their projects. They set up display stands, and presented their research, findings and conclusions to everyone present.

They also had the opportunity to look at projects from other schools, voting on the best (although not their own!), and visit stands from STEM (Science, technology, Engineering and Maths) employers - including collecting a few freebies!

It was a fun and informative day, enhancing what the students had already learnt about the application of STEM disciplines to challenges in our world.

The group were also able to experience the lovely University of Bath campus, and enjoy some interesting and inspiring talks from a range of industry figures.

Two Colyton Grammar School teams were nominated for the Innovation award. Unfortunately, they were not successful, beaten by a very high calibre project. However, there was also the 'People's Choice Award', voted for by the other students, teacher, and engineers, so a very prestigious prize - Team 2 won this, for their 'Our school is an island' project.  Since this was the pick of everyone present, I'm sure you'll agree it is a fantastic achievement – well done to Ellen G, Freya C, Shine G, Filip A, Victoria M, and Evelyn T.

All of the teams not only worked hard on the project, but also gained huge experience in teamwork, communication, project management, and awareness of engineering and global challenges. They should all be very proud.

I look forward to more students from Year 9 entering next year and being successful!
