Bishop Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, recently visited Colyton Grammar School to spend the afternoon with Year 9 and Year 12 students, discussing and answering questions. It was an honour to have an internationally acclaimed academic and theologian in our midst and we are very grateful to Father Steven, Rector of the Holyford Mission, for making this visit possible.
Here’s what Year 9 student Josie had to say about the visit
“The former Archbishop gave a talk to the whole of Year 9, answering and explaining various points of interest that were articulated by students across the year group. The aim of the talk was for Bishop Williams to gently edify the classes on his beliefs to enrich our Religious Education knowledge and deepen our understanding of the Anglican faith. Throughout the talk, the variety of queries posed predominately focussed upon the church’s morals in accordance to modern society and the contrast of the Humanist and religious ways of life. Questions were asked on topics ranging from the position of women in the Church of England to biblically his thoughts on the environmental crisis at hand. Furthermore, he also brought to light answers to the general queries regarding what being a Christian entailed both personally and on a wider scale. I think this was an excellent opportunity for students to propose general earnest questions and receive professional answers to support our learning and education as our GCSE course progresses.”
