News - May 23

There has been success for Colyton Grammar school students across a variety of sports lately, from rounders to athletics.

In rounders, it was the first match of the term for both our Year 7 and Year 8 teams. Both played against Kings, with the Year 7 team playing a closely contested match that showcased some good team work on the field. The games finished with an 11-11 draw. The Year 8 team were well matched in their game, but the Kings team were more consistent with their batting so took the win. This was a fun fixture for the teams, and we are looking forward to the return fixture which will be played at home.

Our girls’ team had a fantastic day of softball cricket at Cullompton. They won three matches overall and only lost one to the eventual winners of the day, St Peters, Exeter. Everyone had to both bowl and bat, so it was a very inclusive event. Well done to Serren L for being voted the Colyton Player of the Day.

Recently, many athletes competed for East Devon against Exeter schools and we had some fantastic results from our Colyton Grammar School athletes winning their events. With the Devon championships set for 10th June, we look forward to hearing more from our athletes once further details are confirmed but we must congratulate Lyra W and Cassia B who took first and second in the Junior Girls 1500m.

Eight Colyton Grammar School students have taken part in the Devon Athletics Championships, representing their clubs with students competing to make it through to the Southwest Championships at the end of the month, with the top two in each event qualifying.

Well done to Olly M and Martin F who finished first and second in the under 17 men’s 1500m, Robin D who came in second place in the under 17 men’s 800m, Scarlett L and Lucy M who finished in first and second in the under 20 women’s 800m, Oscar P who finished third in the under 15 boys 1500m. Innes F who came in first place in the under 20 women’s 1500m and Sam S who came first in the under 15 boys 300m.

Congratulations to all involved in such sporting successes.
