Recently, we welcomed 20 visitors from the SW100 Education Leadership Course. This cohort of school leaders follows a course with the intention of creating Headteachers and CEOs that will improve the educational outcomes for children in our region.
SW100 visits leading schools across the country and even abroad, researching and questioning, looking to find solutions to the problems that face us in this region. It is a privilege to welcome this group to Colyton Grammar School and we looked at the reasons why high prior attaining students (taking the baseline of KS2 outcomes) do less well than peers in the South East and London. Colyton Grammar School is an exception to this trend in the South West and hence the desire to visit us.
Not only did the delegates learn from the visit, they were hugely impressed with our Year 12 students who acted as guides (in the same way as parents of our new Year 7 intake were so impressed with our current Year 7s who spoke so beautifully at the induction day event), but we also learned from senior teachers who are often working in different contexts.
Looking forward, we will soon be welcoming another group of senior teachers to the school from a selective school background. Sharing and learning from each other will make us all better leaders and teachers and help us to improve what we do here.
