Students receive results for UKMT Maths Challenges

Over the last couple of weeks, the results of several different UKMT Maths Challenges coming in after students took part in various rounds.  

In a series of follow-on rounds in the Intermediate Maths Challenge 43 students in Years 9, 10 and 11, took part.  

In Year 9, 19 students took part in the Grey Kangaroo round with a special mention for Reg D (best in school) and Amy G who both achieved a merit. In Year 10, 13 students took part in the Pink Kangaroo round with Harry C, Naomi J (best in year) and Serban S all achieving a merit.  

Twenty-four Year 11 students took part in the Pink Kangaroo round with Naomi B (best in school), Olly C, Donovan G, Cameron K, James L, Jerry M, Tejas P, Mia Q, Emma R and Alan S all achieving a merit.  

Two students from Year 11 and three from Year 10 all took part in the hardest competition at this stage, involving a gruelling two-hour written paper. Well done to the five students, with special mention to Jacob F and Benji O (best in year) from Year 10 and Daniel X from Year 11 who all achieved a merit.  

In all, 306 students in Years 7 and 8 also had the opportunity to take part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. In Year 7, 45 students achieved a bronze certificate, 44 a silver and 28 a gold and in Year 8, there were 50 bronze, 50 silver and 36 gold certificates achieved. Amongst many excellent efforts we had a number of students who scored 100 or more out of a possible 135.  

From Year 7: Siddarth A (107), Teddy B (100), James C (117), James G (102), Finley H (101), Yuan L (111), Shreyas P (1112), Isobel R (104), Arlo S (102), Maria Z (101) and Melissa Z (100). The best in year was Jessica G with an incredible 129 out of 135, only getting one question wrong out of 25.  

In Year 8: Parth A (107), Samuel B (108), Jayan B (119), Lottie C (103), Felix D (102), Jibran F (108), Zion G (112), Cara H (107), Daniel J (105), James K (106), Lawrence S (100), Yihang S (107), Ege Y (101) and Tafhim Z (113). The best in Year 8 was Hope R, with a fantastic score of 124.  

Well done to all the students who took part in the challenge and good luck to those who now progress to the further rounds. Mr Fudger and his colleagues in the Maths team do a wonderful job in providing such a great range of activities to promote scholarship and helping our students to apply curriculum knowledge and to develop a wider hinterland knowledge of the mathematical world.
