A team of Year 12 students who have been working with Amsafe Bridport to improve their HUSLE (Helicopter Under Slung Load Equipment) net recently undertook their Assessment Panel. This followed on from the submission of their technical report, and required them to present their project and conclusions, and then to answer questions from a panel of engineers.

The eight students taking part prepared very well, delivered their presentation confidently and adeptly, and bore up superbly under a quite rigorous cross examination. We then received formal feedback from the panel, which confirmed the high quality of their performance.

Our students were recognized by the panel for their ‘excellent communication skills during both the presentation and the Q&A session. Their confidence and clarity in responding to questions reflected strong preparation and clear understanding of individual roles with the project’ - great examples of Scholarship. In addition, their project management and teamwork was highly praised: ‘It was clear that the team collaborated effectively, with strong teamwork evident through the project… Team morale was clearly high, with members openly acknowledging and valuing each other’s contributions’. Humility and Service to the fore! And their overall performance was praised as highly as our teachers have seen. ‘Overall, the team performed spectacularly. Their research, innovative ideas, and well-developed prototypes reflected a high level of thoughts, effort and creativity.’

Well done to Alan S, Alex S, Benjamin K, Chun C, Daniel X, Josh L, Reece T and Will M – you have truly embodied Colyton’s values and ethos and represented the school with exemplary effort and excellence.

Their final stage is to prepare for the Celebration Day, when they will display their projects at the Engineering Development Trust event in Bristol and be in the chance of some of the regional prizes.
