News - Jun 4

Our Year 12 students have now completed the away leg of their French Exchange, which involved being partnered with a French pupil from the French Lycée Felix Le Dantec in the beautiful historic town of Lannion in Northern Brittany.

Each Colyton student stayed with a local French family, immersing themselves in daily family life, and spending the days working in nearby French primary schools much to the delight of the young écoliers, who have greeted them like rock stars.

Mr Gordon and Miss Rix were able to visit all the schools and came away feeling enormously proud and impressed with how each of our Year 12 students approached this exchange. The feedback from the teachers hosting them has been genuinely wonderful and effusive, praising their enthusiasm, adaptability and intelligence. They have been incredible ‘rosbif’ ambassadors, as well as upholders of our school values of scholarship, humility and service throughout.

The students visited their partners’ Lycée (6th form college) and had a fascinating tour, after which James W and Rosalia AE kindly gave a presentation in English on the UK School system and Colyton. Billy S, Freddie W and Manny S then had the pleasure of a German lesson in French, even though they’ve never studied it. Very brave. Elsewhere, there was entertaining reports of curried mussels (Manny had fourths), a surprising amount of Volleyball (well done Sofia B and Freddie), quickfire lessons on Welsh and German language (thank you Rosalia and John P respectively), and a Breton dance show in the park (we were sad to miss Sam S in action here).

We look forward to returning the hospitality when our guests return towards the end of June. Thank you to Mr Gordon and Miss Rix for enabling this fantastic experience to take place.
