Year 7 student Will L, one of our school Poet Laureates, has written the following poem for National Writing Day. Well done and thank you, Will.
Writing is the human expression of ideas:
Let's just say, even something as random as a newspaper advert for Ikea!
There are so many options!
You can write anything I suppose:
There are novels, fantasies, prose
narratives, persuasion, interviews;
all presenting unique views, and
so, so much more.
Why don’t you go and open this infinitely potent door?
It definitely doesn’t have to be professionals writing
or even teachers or adults.
To be technical, it doesn’t even have to be people
(As long as you trust those monkeys with that bunch of typewriters you just bought in bulk)
So you’ve got no excuse not to:
go and pick up your pen.
I assure you – it’ll all be more than worth it.
Maybe even build yourself a nice comfortable cosy den.
Follow my example (it’s this poem)
And exceed it (how about multiple of them)
Why write, you ask?
In school, there might be an Arbor point
But that’s only the beginning:
there’s education, entertainment,
emotion, and an abundance of things that’ll leave you grinning!
Do it now!
As soon as possible!
Surely you want to write something soon
So here’s the challenge:
Before noon!
And if noon’s already gone
Just start immediately and be number one!
Most importantly, be heard and have fun!
Our other Poet Laureate is Nathanael H in Year 8 wrote this poem:
Writing’s Wonders
Here, words will steal the show,
It’s amazing how these flow,
Forming stories, or that essay,
Poems written for today,
This will only grow and grow,
The magic is everywhere,
A topic beyond compare,
Bases of humanity,
Giving our brains sanity,
Thank you writing, for your care.
